Odds from a community aggregate of more than 5,000 opened packs (cardcodex and rarecandy trackers, in full agreement). The darker bar is the low end of the range and the lighter bar runs to the high end. Odds for a single card assume every card of its rarity is equally likely.

What makes Mega Evolution different

Mega Evolution is the first English expansion of the Mega Evolution series, which brought Mega-evolved Pokémon back to the card game alongside the video game Pokémon Legends: Z-A. It combines two Japanese sets released on 1 August 2025, Mega Brave and Mega Symphonia, into a 132-card main set and 56 secret rares. Our Mega Evolution sets ranked guide shows how it compares with the sets that followed.

Ten Mega Evolution Pokémon ex lead the set, among them Mega Lucario ex, Mega Gardevoir ex, Mega Venusaur ex and Mega Kangaskhan ex. They carry more HP and hit harder than regular Pokémon ex, but your opponent takes three Prize cards when one is Knocked Out.

Mega Hyper Rares

This set introduced the Mega Hyper Rare, a gold, etched rarity that sits above the Special Illustration Rare. There are two: Mega Gardevoir ex (#187) and Mega Lucario ex (#188). One of the pair turns up in about one pack in 1,260, so a named gold card is closer to 1 in 2,520. The ten Special Illustration Rares, numbered 177 to 186, share odds of about one pack in 101.

What the Mega Evolution odds mean

The rates above come from a community count of more than 5,000 opened packs. Illustration Rares are the steady hit at about one pack in nine, Ultra Rares arrive about once in 12 to 13 packs, and a Double Rare, the regular Mega Evolution Pokémon ex, about once in five. At one Special Illustration Rare per 101 packs, roughly one Booster Box in three holds one.

Mega Evolution products and release dates

Mega Evolution launched on 26 September 2025 in North America and most other regions. In Europe, the Middle East and Africa, including the UK, problems with product delivery pushed the release back two weeks to 10 October 2025. The range:

  • Booster Box (36 packs), plus an Enhanced Booster Box that adds a Bulbasaur box topper.
  • Elite Trainer Box (9 packs) in two designs: Mega Lucario with a full-art Riolu promo, and Mega Gardevoir with a full-art Alakazam promo.
  • Booster Bundle (6 packs).
  • Build & Battle Box: one of four 40-card decks and 4 packs.
  • Mega Heroes Mini Tins: 2 packs, a sticker sheet and an art card.

The Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box came in the same two designs, with 11 packs and two copies of its promo, one stamped with the Pokémon Center logo. Join the drop alerts to hear when the next Pokémon Center exclusives land.
